First thing, first. If you want to go camping in France, you have to get there. Many budget airlines now offer spectacular deals from the UK and throughout Europe into smaller airports throughout France. Ryanair, Easyjet and Flybe should all be checked out. If you book tickets early enough and over the Internet there are some amazing deals to be had. Do watch out for the luggage allowances though as they can be very restrictive especially if you are carrying a lot of gear for camping in France.

The alternative of course is to drive. With the Eurotunnel and all the major ferry companies competing for space, there is always a deal to be found. Going by car has the added advantage that you can carry as much gear as you can fit in the car (and trailer) and you get to take advantage of those fantastic French roads. Do bear in mind though that there are tolls to pay and these must be included in your budget.

People looking for a budget holiday camping in France will find that France is a wonderful surprise. It is a very large country and a quick glance at the map reveals a startling choice of holiday scenery. Head for the Pyrenees for example and you will find many camp sites that are simply beautiful and great value for money. There are more than 11,000 campsites in France. The campsites are all rated with a star system with the higher rated campsites offering more facilities and consequently charging higher prices.

France also has many supported tourism schemes with camping offered on farms, chateaux and even vineyards. These are well worth checking out as they can be less busy and offer some great bargains. Do expect the facilities to be less comprehensive however. You can also find self catering holiday campsites that offer tents, mobile homes and chalets already on site - pre set up and ready to move in! Facilities may include swimming pools, shops, clubs, bars, entertainment and playgrounds for the children. Other activities you may find could include tennis, boules, fishing, bicycles for hire and snooker or pool tables. Needless to say, you should check carefully before you book to avoid disappointment if you want a particular facility.

Onto the campsite itself. Reserving a site is essential especially if you place to travel in July or August. The French themselves tend to take their holidays in August and this is a particularly busy time. Do your research and book well in advance to avoid paying extortionate last minute prices. Needless to say, if you can manage to bring all your camping gear with you, it will limit any last minute needs to buy locally which again can be expensive during peak season. Remember a captive customer can be charged more!

Camping in France is a superb proposition. Campsites from mountain views to beaches are all available and often at prices that are amazingly cheap. Do your research and book well in advance and you cannot beat it for a budget fun holiday for all the family.
