The Hay-Hutch - Simple and Effective!

We have been in the business of supplying hay and haylage to hundreds of customers throughout Europe for many years and the Hay-Hutch is without doubt one of the simplest and yet best ideas we have seen.

What is Hay-Hutch?

Hay-Hutch is a new feeder designed for haylage or hay. It can be used in the stable or in the field and, unlike a hayrack or a haynet, the feed is presented at ground level, the natural eating position.Hay-Hutch

The revolutionary Hay-Hutch is, like so many good ideas, simple. It protects precious fodder from the elements, preventing it from being trodden into or spoiling the pasture.

When feeding horses in stables or fields, wastage can occur due to the weather or with animals treading the hay into the ground or fouling. All these things waste fodder and money.

With the cost of haylage and hay as well as labour always critical, a Hay-Hutch can pay for itself within a matter of months. Robustly made of tough polyethylene, your Hay-Hutch will give you years of service.

It saves hassle too! If you ad-lib feed, you can top up your Hay-Hutch with enough hay or haylage to last for several days. This cuts down the morning chores and of course, you can dodge the showers too!

The Hay-Hutch is available in three sizes suitable for use in the stable, in the yard or in the field.

Immediate Benefits
  • No more hay getting wet in the field and then having to pick it up or watch it get trodden into the ground, killing the grass underneath.
  • No waste.
  • Ad lib feeding becomes possible as the fodder stays dry.
  • Filling the Hay-Hutch right up means less feeding trips and less labour.
  • Your sward or yard substrate are protected from damage caused by a fixed feeder or rotting hay on the ground.
  • Save Money - Most loose fed horses waste about 25%. If one horse eats four bales a week at €4 per bale, that’s €4 lost per week. In only 25 weeks the cost of the Hay-Hutch is recovered. After that you save up to €200 per year per horse.
  • Save Time - Fill up once a day or maybe once a week. Three different sizes of Hay-Hutch are available to suit your needs.
  • Save Your Paddocks - Easy to move, light-weight yet very robust and stable design. Cannot easily be toppled over.

Options

Hay-Hutches are available in three sizes, Small, Medium and Large. Easy fit lids allow quick and easy filling.

The Small Hay-Hutch is ideal for use in the stable or the field for one to three horses or ponies. It can take up to half of a small bale of hay or a folded flap from a big bale. It can be easily moved as required, full or empty.

The Medium is suitable for larger stables or paddock use, holds a whole standard small bale and so needs filling less often saving valuable time. Both the Small and the Medium are so light that they can be moved empty or full by one person.

The Large is suitable for yards or paddocks and can feed up to five/six horses or ponies. It holds up to two and a half standard small bales or six or seven flaps of a "quadrant" big bale of hay. When empty, it is so light that any of the stable crew can drag it or roll it to a new position to save wear and tear on the pasture.

Versatile and Tough!

The Hay-Hutch is manufactured from the same material as the latest generation show jumps and as such will give years of service in the field.

Not only for horses, the Hay-Hutch is favoured by many alpaca and llama owners as the natural ground level feeding presentation is advantageous. It also has the added bonus that less hay gets caught in the fleece!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can my horse reach inside to get all of the hay or haylage out?

Yes. There are three feed apertures in the Small and Medium Hay-Hutches and six in the Large ones. Provided stock have access to all of the apertures, they can get at the fodder.

In our experience, Small and Medium Hay-Hutches placed in the corner of a stable still provide no significant problem for reaching all of the contents.

  • My horse can be playful. Can he get the lid off?

Each Hay-Hutch is supplied with a "Naughty bolt" to lock the lid, if stock succeed in developing a lid removing technique.

Simply align the holes drilled through the lid, push the bolt down through the holes and tighten the wing nut to secure.

  • My horses bully each other. Can they share properly with a Hay-Hutch?

Depending on how much of a bully we are talking about, we have found that, providing the Hay-Hutch is kept topped up, the horse get to know that good, dry feed is always available. They therefore become more content and less inclined to feel the need to fight over it.

  • Can my horse get his head or foot stuck?

We have had no experience or report of any such incident to date. The apertures are designed to make it difficult for a horse to get its leg through.

Horse Scene Magazine called the Hay-Hutch 'a fantastic invention'. Get yours now and start saving time and money!
