The beautiful town of Saint Tropez is the hangout of the beautiful, the rich and the famous. Originally it was a small fishing village on the coast of France but became the place to be for artists such as Signac, Seurat and Matisse who lived an worked there during their lifetimes. Artists are still drawn to Saint Tropez but you are more likely to see Hollywood stars visiting the shops nowadays. In the 1950s Saint Tropez became synonymous with fame due to it's association with Brigitte Bardot.

The Bay of Pampelonne offers a collection of beaches along its five kilometre shore. Some are private and some are public. Some of the private beaches are naturist beaches. Many offer sailing, windsurfing and canoeing equipment for rent. There are also power boats, jet bikes and water skiing available. When people speak of Saint Tropez one often thinks of glitz and glamour but there are several family oriented beaches there. Some feature playgrounds and being France, the restaurants are very child friendly.

Remember that the French tend to holiday in August (and to a lesser extent July) so perhaps timing your trip for June or September will avoid the crush on the beaches. The weather is still extremely pleasant in these months.

Each October there is a regatta in the bay of Saint-Tropez. Many yachts visit for this and you are likely to see some of the most incredible yachts in the world. Many tourists come to Saint Tropez for the regatta which is spectacular by all accounts. For a change, you can take a day trip out of town and a ferry boat connection operated by Les Bateaux Verts connects the town with Sainte-Maxime, across the bay.

Whenever you visit this beautiful historic French town you are sure to be dazzled. Have a great trip!
